Ins and Outs of 2026...
The Monster Ate and Left No Crumbs...
Awards season loves a surprise, but Frankenstein sweeping the wins felt less like a shock and more like a collective agreement. This film ate, and it earned every bite.
I loved it. Visually stunning, emotionally smart, and not trying too hard to explain itself. Beneath the gothic beauty was a message that felt very now. The pressure to fit in, to be palatable, to look a certain way before you are allowed to belong. Frankenstein’s character was not chasing perfection. He was chasing acceptance. Honestly, and truth.
What made it work was how human it felt. There was softness in the storytelling, humour in unexpected places, and a quiet confidence that trusted the audience to keep up. It was thoughtful without being too overly heavy, which I think was one of the amazing achievements of this film.
The behind the scenes footage with Guillermo del Toro only made it better. Watching him shape each character around the actor playing them added depth to every performance. Nothing felt forced. Everything felt intentional, which was an intention Guillermo had when taking on this project.
Maybe that is why it dominated. In a world obsessed with polish, Frankenstein reminded us that individuality is the real flex. And clearly, awards season agreed.

Until next week,
Love, Ra xxx
