Here at Alterior Motif, we do all our styling within our own team. From visual merchandising to building an outfit from scratch for a customer, we live and breathe this kind of thing.
Every month or so, I ask the girls to choose their favourite piece in store, whether it is a pair of sunnies or a ballgown, and tell me how they would style it. Then, into the Journal it goes.
This week, I decided to take it one step further and put the spotlight on one of our amazing stylists, Willow, from our Noosa store. I gave her a selection of pieces and asked one simple question: If these were in your wardrobe, how would you style them?
Here is what she came up with…
Look 1. (Rowie skirt Bassike top)
“I am typically a minimalist when it comes to dressing, but sometimes a pop of colour is fun to play with. I especially love reds, blues and greens because I know they work well with my complexion.
The softness of the grey balances the bold red, which is why I paired these pieces together. I chose tan accessories to tie everything in, as black can sometimes feel a little harsh, although it would still look great.”
Look 2. (Silk pants Zulu top)
“A black bag is so easy to carry from day to night. For a trans seasonal outfit, I would style it with a pair of Silk Laundry pants. They are perfect for everything from everyday errands to drinks with the girls. Just throw on a heel and you are good to go.
Again, a subtle hint of colour goes a long way. I also like turning larger bags into clutches and letting the handles dangle. It is an easy way to switch things up.”
Look 3. (Deiji top and jeans)
“I am a minimalist through and through, so a basic tee and jeans combination is often my go to. This top from Deiji Studios is the perfect elevated staple, with its beautiful tie at the back and underbust detailing. It is super comfortable too.
I paired it with my favourite St. Agni woven slides. I usually size up in jeans, particularly as the weather gets warmer, so I can easily throw them on over a bikini. I would also wear this look with a kitten heel or a mini wedge thong heel from my own wardrobe.”
Look 4. (SIR dress and jeans)
“This outfit was a little outside my comfort zone, but it is fun to play dress ups because sometimes you discover a combination that simply works.
I love the drapery of this orange dress and, of course, orange and blue go hand in hand. Layering it over jeans was the first thing that came to mind. I would finish the look with a kitten heel or a mini wedge thong heel.”
Whether she is adding a pop of red, transforming a bag into a clutch or layering a dress over denim, Willow’s approach proves that styling is really about playing with what you have. Sometimes the best outfits come from stepping slightly outside your comfort zone and seeing what works.
