This Week, According To Rani...

A Day in Our Life During Sydney Fashion Week…

Australian Fashion Week brings more than influencers and B grade celebs, it brings the buyers… the people who come in and choose from the top Australian brands months before collections even launch. For us, these brands include St. Agni, Bec + Bridge, Zulu & Zephyr and last but definitely not least, one of our all time favourites, SIR..

This year was jam packed with back to back showings, dinners and even our first ever runway show with Nagnata. Ok, let’s walk through it…

Day 1

We had a not too early flight (8:15am… still too early for me) from the Sunny Coast airport straight to Sydney!!!

We headed straight to our hotel in Surry Hills, got settled in, unpacked and then immediately… COFFEE!!!

Next door to our hotel was Bills, our favourite coffee spot that also has the best peanut butter brittle in the world.

After that we got ready for our first showing with Zulu & Zephyr. Before every showing we’re sent a look book that we comb through beforehand so we already have a pretty good idea of what we’re interested in before walking in.

Zulu was AMAZING. So many beautiful pieces are coming through for Resort next year. For those who don’t know, Resort is basically a curated collection of warm weather, holiday and vacation wear.

For dinner we kept it simple and booked a table at The Dolphin Hotel where we met up with the beautiful Emma from Zulu. Then it was straight to bed for an early start the next day.

Day 2

This was definitely our most hectic day of all.

Starting at 8am with Bassike, we got to see their stunning new collection. Bassike pulled inspiration from Japan for this one, reworking more traditional pieces while still keeping that minimal feel they’re known for, alongside some vibrant colours and prints. This drop is going to be a GOOD one.

We then made our way to The Eve Hotel in Darlinghurst and had a quick pick me up at their jaw dropping restaurant. Probably one of the most beautiful Persian inspired cafes/restaurants I’ve ever been to.

Next up was a showing with Kendi Agencies, run by the vibrant Sammy. We looked through upcoming collections from Mountain & Moon, Melissa and Summi Summi. Lots of exciting new colours and cuts from Summi, inspired by Miami, so expect bright yellows, pinks and aquas coming through.

Then it was time for Silk Laundry, which I was SO excited for. We noticed similar colour palettes coming through again, especially those buttery yellows. This one was HARD because we loved a LOT of it. We eventually narrowed it down to beautiful wedding guest pieces, elevated uniform basics and some super unique statement styles.

And that was a wrap for Tuesday…

After heading home and freshening up, we made our way to our booking at 10 William St where we met up with our friends Ash and Casey. The night started with dirty martinis (which honestly weren’t that dirty) and a spicy margarita that nearly made my heart stop.

We headed upstairs to the dining area and of course ordered multiple pastas and a bottle of red. After a few too many glasses we somehow ended up back home and straight into bed.

Day 3

Day 3 was a super exciting one for Steph and I because it was our first ever runway show.

We attended the Nagnata FUTURE=FIBRE Runway Show and breathtaking honestly feels like an understatement.

After walking in and being handed cold water and Sodii electrolytes, we made our way to our seats. Before the runway even started there was an immersive performance of classic contemporary by a group of dancers wearing the Movement 21 pieces.

Then one by one the models walked out, styled by Jessica Dos Remedios. She transformed pieces in such a creative way, styling bags as tops and jumpers as scarves then layering everything unexpectedly. We’re already excited to bring some of that styling inspiration into the store.

After the show we headed to Paddington for lunch at Daily Greens where Penny claimed she had the best avocado toast of her life.

Steph and I then ducked into Mecca Coffee for cold brews and iced lattes before heading upstairs to the Nagnata showroom to look through Movement 23, the collection we’ll be receiving next year.

Again, those yellows and blues were everywhere, plus the signature tri bralette making a comeback!!!

We then raced to Rosebery for our SIR showing where we were greeted by the beautiful Georgia and a tiny pug… sooo cute.

As always, the collection was stunning. We noticed they tapped back into some of their original silhouettes and OG styles, while bringing through florals and bright European inspired prints. This one was another difficult buy because there were so many beautiful pieces you could wear all summer long.

My personal favourite was a peach silk dress that looked almost fairy-like. You’ll definitely be seeing that one next year.

That night we headed to the Summi Summi Dinner hosted by Kendi Agencies.

The night started in the penthouse Sammy was staying in, with the collection displayed throughout the room alongside beautiful floral arrangements by BY.MAG.NOLIA. We were greeted with champagne, left with goodie bags and then headed to Lottie for dinner.

If you’re ever in Sydney I HIGHLY recommend Lottie. The staff were incredible, the drinks were amazing and the whole experience felt completely seamless.

Day 4

Our last day!!!

We finally got a little sleep which was very needed after the night before.

We made our way down to Bills for one final coffee and peanut brittle before our Bec & Bridge showing.

The overall theme of the collection was surf and ocean inspired, with playful fabrications woven throughout the pieces. Another VERY hard buy because there was just so much to choose from.

We stayed true to the direction of the collection, so you can expect lots of beautiful whites, ocean blues and a little bit of sparkle coming through.

After that we made our way to the airport, did a little Korean skincare shopping, grabbed some lunch and jumped on our flight home.

And of course… several power naps later, we arrived back home completely exhausted and very ready for sleep after a very busy trip.

Until next week,

Love, Ra xxx
